Khaled Abubakr is the Executive Chairman of TAQA Arabia, the leading private energy distribution company in Egypt. Through its 3 operational divisions and its 3400 professional employees working in 18 governorates, TAQA serves every year 1.3 million customers in Egypt with 6 billion cubic meter of gas, 1000 MW of power, operating 70 retail/fuel stations and state of the art 50 MW Solar Energy in Benban – the global largest renewable energy complex. The group generates over 7.5 billion EGP in annual turnover.
A veteran in the energy industry, Eng. Khaled Abubakr brings in 35 years of diverse and successful achievements in the Energy industry. He played an instrumental role in expanding the sustainable role and participation of the public and private sector in the Egyptian gas and energy industry. Abubakr serves as Vice President, Programs as part of the AmCham Board of Governors and served as Energy Committee chairman for eight years. For the past eleven years, he served as Board Member of the International Gas Union, and its Regional Coordinator for Africa & Middle East. Abubakr is the Chairman of the Egyptian Gas Association and serves on the International Advisory Board of Montreal University (HEC) and is also the President of the Italian Egyptian Business Council. A graduate of the Jesuites School, Abubakr obtained his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, from Cairo University, an MBA specialized in Management of Oil & Gas companies from HEC at Montreal University, a Diploma in International Oil and Gas Financial Management from the University of Texas and has completed Harvard University’s Advanced Program in ‘Reform & Privatization’.
