Angola Receives Support From the EITI
The Global Committee for the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI) has expressed its support of Angola in joining the organization, which establishes a global standard for the transparent governance of the extractive sectors.
According to the organization, it will take Angola a period of six to 18 months to implement the measures required by membership elgibility. Among the measures that remain to be implemented include a work plan coordinated with the extractive sector and civil society to establish the procedures for each jurisdiction. The budgeted work plan must also link
Angola’s national reform and development priorities with the EITI’s implementation objectives.
Additionally, the country is required to map out and analyze existing disclosures, legislation and reporting systems that can facilitate the disclosure of agreements with the EITI standard.
The Angolan Government announced its intention to join the EITI in August, with efforts led by the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas and the National Committee.
