Small-Scale Thermal Station Brings Power to Angola

In an effort to boost electricity access in the region, a 20 MW thermal power station has currently operating on an experimental basis in Cuito, Angola since February.

Located in the Caluapanda neighborhood of Cuito (Central Bié province), the recently constructed power station serves to provide electricity to more than 3,000 consumers in the province’s capital. In total, the National Electricity Distribution Company in Cuito has more than 30,000 customers, and the city boasts a population of over 500,000 inhabitants.

The four-turbine infrastructure also aims to alleviate potential blackouts that threaten the supply of electricity derived from Laúca (north-east Malanje province).

According to the Provincial Office of Infrastructure and Technical Services in the region, 13,500 new connections will be reinforced this year, of which 10,500 will take place in the municipality of Cuito, along with other connections in Camacupa and Chinguar.
