French oil super major, Total is set to start production on the Egina floating production and offloading (FPSO) unit in Nigeria at the end of this year.

Making the announcement, Deputy Managing Director of Total Ahmadu Kida Musa said: “I am happy to announce that first oil will be at the very tail end of the year.”

Once online, the FPSO will increase Nigeria’s oil production capacity by 10 percent.

The Egina FPSO is designed to handle about 200,000 barrels of oil per day and high volumes of natural gas. It will also store 2.3 million barrels of crude oil, while exploiting the 570 million barrel Egina main discovery.

Egina will represent about 10 percent of Nigeria’s overall output at peak and boost Total’s production in Nigeria from about 265,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

The FPSO is situated between 1400 and 1700 meters of water, and hosts 44 subsea wells.
