Senegal is putting key human resource (HR) structures in place in a bid to upgrade and design a sustainable and profitable oil & gas industry.

During Africa Energy Chamber’s Local Content Forum last week, HR was identified as a key factor in the development of a stable petroleum industry, which could be achieved through the Institut National du Petrole et du Gaz (INPG), an HR training institution created by government to provide the oil & gas industry with a reliable pool of workers.

“The mission of INPG is to put a high-level training institution in place to provide the oil & gas value chain with skilled professionals. Our goal is to meet the needs of the industry and all associated parties. A needs assessment was conducted about 18 months ago, during which we met with various stakeholders in the sector,” Aguibou Ba, Director-General of the INPG said.

He added that the INPG also met with government and administrative entities to further understand their oil & gas requirements.

“We will work closely with law firms to make progress on taxation, customs and petroleum law. INPG’s ambition is to be the main supplier of human resources to the oil & gas sectors,” he said.
